2017! Spring Intramural Soccer Register Now
We hope your daughter or son has registered to play Field Hockey, Softball and/or Baseball with WRA this Spring. A diverse sports experience is widely acknowledged to be the best way for your player to stay active and healthy. However, if your child is not attracted to those sports, perhaps this intramural soccer offering will give her/him a chance to enjoy getting outdoors while improving soccer skills.
PreK through Grade 3
We are opening up a new opportunity for young players that would enjoy soccer in a fun, supportive, learning environment. The program is intended to provide academy style instruction and game play in a neat, easy-to-attend package, led by professional trainers from Smart Soccer.
Time commitment will be one hour per week, for 8 weeks in April and May. The hour will be divided into a coaching segment and game play, and every child should benefit from maximum playing time and ball touches.
The tentative schedule (updated March 28) is as follows:
April 5, 6:30 Whitpain Township Building (Meeting Rm B) - Parent-Coach Meetings
Week of April 10 - Week of May 29 (8 week season); tentative weekly sessions:
Games will be held at Shady Grove Elementary School unless otherwise notified.
Mondays 5:45 pm PreK Co-ed/ 6:45 pm Kindergarten Co-ed
Wednesdays 5:45 pm 1st grade Co-ed / 6:45 pm 2nd/3rd Grade Boys
Friday 5:45 pm 2nd/3rd Grade Girls / 6:45 pm 4th/5th Grade Girls
Note: Times will change to 6:00 & 7:00 PM as daylight hours permit
Week of May 29 & June 5 - Reschedules
Registration fee is $75 (plus $10 if you live outside Whitpain Township). Include an additional $10 if your child needs a ball of the appropriate size. Space is limited and registration closes mid-March.
Grade 4 thru 12 For older players (4th grade and up) we will try to duplicate the Fall program on a small scale, with teams assigned and holding practice on a weeknight and a weekend game. Teams are expected to be smaller, and game play will conform to new US Youth Soccer standards (7v7 for 4th/5th grade; etc).
Play will begin April 15 and carry on through June 3, with makeups in the following week of June if needed. Games will be Saturday afternoon; we’ll try to work around other WRA schedules to avoid conflicts.
The registration fee is $75 for Whtipain residents, $85 for all others. Players will receive a uniform shirt and socks.
Depending on registration, it may prove necessary to assign co-ed teams (at any and/or all age groups).
Players in the middle school and high school age groups may play on teams that are assembled each weekend based on who is available (basically a pickup game, with referee), however with enough interest we will form standing teams. Either way, you can expect to have several of the same teammates each game.
The key in this new effort will be for players to remain flexible as we develop this fun program.
We will make every effort to avoid scheduling conflicts with other concurrent WRA sports, and will refund soccer registration fees where it doesn't work out.
Volunteers are needed; this is a superb opportunity to learn from Smart Soccer trainers, picking up coaching tips, and practice ideas as you work with them week after week.
Late registration is open until March 31. Late registrations will be accepted as space permits. Email Intramural Soccer@WRASports.org for help with late registration or info.
